Homemade Diwali Legium/Deepavali Marunthu with detailed step by step pictures

  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds,
  • ¼ cup jaggery(i used karupatti),
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds,
  • 2 tsp pepper,
  • 1-inch cinnamon,
  • 2 cardamom,
  • 1 tbsp dry ginger powder,
  • 5 Long Pepper(kandathippili),
  • 1 tbsp omam(ajwain),
  • 2 tsp dry neem flower(veppam poo),
  • 4 dates,
  • 10 raisins,
  • 1 tsp cow ghee.
  1. Crush the kandathippili in a mortar pestle, add all the ingredients in mixie jar except, raisins, dates, ghee, dry ginger powder, ghee. Powder it into a fine powder
  2. Add the dry ginger powder, mix it, and sieve the ground powder.
  3. Grind the raisins & dates to a fine paste.
  4. Heat a Kadai add jaggery & 4 tbsp water, melt the jaggery.
  5. No need to bring the string consistency, just once the syrup becomes thick add the ground powder, ground dates paste, mix well.
  6. Stir continuously, once the mixture becomes thick and glossy. Switch off the flame.
  7. Finally, add a tsp ghee and let it cool down.
