Manathakkali Keerai Kootu recipe using Toor Dal

  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 2 dry red chili
  • ½ cup onion chopped
  • 1 bunch Manathakkali keerai
  • ⅓ cup Toor dal
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chili
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  1. First Pressure cook toor dal with water, keep aside.
  2. Grind the coconut with cumin seeds & green chili into a fine paste, keep aside.
  3. Heat a tsp of oil in a Kadai, add mustard seeds & urad dal. Let it splutter.
  4. Add red chili & onion and saute well. Add the manathakkali keerai and saute well.
  5. Add dal, grounded coconut paste, salt, and turmeric powder, mix well.
  6. Finely, add the water. cover and cook for 5-10 mins in low flame. If you are using a pressure cooker just wait for 2 whistles and then switch off.
  7. Once the keerai becomes soft and the gravy thickens, remove it from the flame. Manathakkali keerai kootu is ready.
clean and chop the manathakkali keerai and keep ready before cooking.
ground the coconut and cumin + chili into a fine paste and add it to the kootu for more tasty manathakkali keerai kootu. Don't skip this step.
