Sombu Chutney is something very close to my heart because amma makes this often at home. While tempering the sombu itself the whole house smells like heaven. She adds Sombu to almost all the dishes that give a unique taste. Whereas MIL cooking is entirely different, she doesn’t use sombu in cooking. I follow both sometimes and sometimes I use sometimes not. The one dish without any guilt I use is sombu. This chutney thoroughly loves the flavour. You just give it a try and you love it.

How to make Sombu Chutney,
Take 2 Medium sized onions roughly chopped, and 2 well ripe tomatoes diced.
Heat a pan with 1 tbsp sesame oil, add 1 tsp fennel seeds, let it splutter.
Add the Onion, tomatoes saute well.
Add a small piece of tamarind, 4 dried Red chilies saute well, till tomatoes turn soft.
Remove them from the pan and let it cool down.
Transfer to the mixie jar and grind it to a smooth paste, along with 1 tsp salt.
That’s it, Sombu Chutney is ready to serve!
Add Tadka is optional, you can add or skip.
While roasting fennel seeds don’t burn it. It will totally spoil the taste. just the fennel seeds started to sputter and add the onion tomatoes.
