Instant Kollu Rasam Recipe without Rasam Powder, How to make Horse gram Soup made with fresh ingredients.  One Easy South Indian weight loss soup recipe that can make less than 15 mins😋😋. Super Soft Kollu idli is my super hit recipe for weight watchers made without rice. After that on reader’s request made kollu rasam. All you need is just soak the kollu(horse gram) overnight the next day pressure cook, grind and make rasam. Very simple isn’t it.  Kollu rasam goes well with Quinoa, millets, or oats or just you can have it for dinner as a soup.

If you looking for South Indian weight loss recipes,  this is one great idea,  you can see on my meal plate. Quinoa topped with Kollu rasam, and Thattapayiru poriyal. This was my lunch yesterday. For dinner, I had Kollu rasam with 180g grams of air fried paneer. My simple lunch and dinner sorted using Kollu rasam. I am just giving you a meal idea you can mix and match rasam with your favorite veggies of your choice to make sure that we are taking enough protein.

What is Horse Gram??? In Tamil Nadu, horse gram (called கொள்ளு in Tamil) is a legume native to tropical southern Asia, commonly grown for horse feed and occasionally for human consumption and in Ayurvedic cuisine. 

Can we have Horse gram soup daily??? is indeed a superfood, owing to its immense nutritive values and fitness benefits. It is highly recommended to take kollu in our diet in any foam few more kollu recipes like Kollu podi recipe this kollu podi goes well with millets, quinoa, or oats. Kollu Chutney or Kollu Thogaiyal recipe goes well with rasam rice or idli dosai. These are some ideas that you can include kollu in your diet.

Can kids Take Horse Gram???  avoid giving horse gram to babies less than 1 year. But kids above 1 year can take horse gram in moderate quantity like soup form.

Kollu Rasam made without Rasam powder or Sambar Powder. Simple and Tasty horse gram rasam recipe for beginners and who are looking for weight loss soup recipes, this is ideal soup.

Ingredients
  • 2tbsp horse gram
  • ½ cup of water(for pressure kollu)
  • 1 small lemon sized tamarind in ½ cup water, extract the juice.
  • 2 tomatoes mashed
  • curry leaves,
  • 5 garlic cloves,
  • 2 tsp black pepper,
  • 3 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 cup water(for rasam)
  • 1 & ½ tsp salt,
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • coriander leaves(garnish)
  • For tempering,
  • 1 tsp ghee,
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds,
  • 3 dried red chili,
  • hing
Instructions
  1. Soak 2tbsp horse gram in water overnight. Pressure cook it with ½ cup of water until it becomes soft. Grind the boiled kollu along with the water, set it aside. Soak 1 small lemon sized tamarind in ½ cup water, extract the juice.
  2. Heat a saucepan add Tamarind extract, 2 tomatoes mashed, curry leaves, 5 garlic cloves, 2 tsp black pepper, 3 tsp cumin seeds ground in mortar pestle into coarse powder add it.
  3. Add ground kollu + 1 cup water mix well. Add 1 & ½ tsp salt, ¼ tsp turmeric powder. Keep in medium flame let it boil.
  4. Meanwhile prepare the tempering, with ghee, mustard seeds, dried red chili, hing. Once the rasam started to foam on top add the fresh coriander leaves & switch off the stove.
  5. Finally, add the tempering and mix well. Kollu rasam Ready!!
Notes
Don’t let the rasam boil more. Just getting frothy on the top is enough.
Avoid adding rasam powder, use the freshly ground powder that to don’t grind it smooth powder, it should be coarse for best aroma.
Kollu Rasam you can have it for dinner too.

Step by step Kollu rasam recipe, Horse gram Rasam recipe:

Kollu rasam step 1

Soak 2tbsp horse gram in water overnight. Pressure cook it with ½ cup of water until it becomes soft. Grind the boiled kollu along with the water, set it aside.

Soak 1 small lemon sized tamarind in ½ cup water, extract the juice.

Heat a saucepan add Tamarind extract, 2 tomatoes mashed, curry leaves, 5 garlic cloves, 2 tsp black pepper, 3 tsp cumin seeds ground in mortar pestle into coarse powder add it.

Add ground kollu + 1 cup water mix well. Add 1 & ½ tsp salt, ¼ tsp turmeric powder. Keep in medium flame let it boil.

Meanwhile prepare the tempering, with ghee, mustard seeds, dried red chili, thing.

Once the rasam started to foam on top add the fresh coriander leaves & switch off the stove.

Finally, add the tempering and mix well. Kollu rasam Ready!!
