Usually, my hubby does this sacred thread ceremony at the permal temple, Singapore. But this year we planned to do it at home and am collecting the info and audios to perform Avani Avittam. Just sharing here few info here hope it would be helpful.
Things needed to take if you are performing at temples or in the common hall:
silver or a brass plate, Panchathra, uthirini, raw rice, jaggery, black ellu, dhakshanai, ghee.
If you are performing at home then watch this Avani Avittam Yajurveda Upakarma Self Performing Tutorial video it would be helpful.
You can also find the complete Upakarma vidhi is available in Tamil and Sanskrit as downloadable pdf files and audio file here it would be helpful if you are performing at home.
The house should be cleaned and washed. Kolam should be drawn at that day. Aarthi will be taken and youngsters will do namaskaram to get the blessings from elders. If the poonal ceremony is held in the temple then homam will be done there and aarathy will be taken as soon as they arrived the house.
Doing it in empty stomach is good on that day, therefore we should not take anything,
THE MENU FOR THE DAY:
The first Avani Avittam after upanayanam is called “THALAI AVANI AVITTAM” for this it is usual to prepare WHOLE GREEN GRAM SUNDAL AND OFFER IT AS NEIVEDHYAM.
