How to prepare Pasalai Keerai (பசலை கீரை) Kootu

Pasalai keerai  is a well known leafy vegetable. Spinach has a high nutritional value and is extremely rich in vitamin d.Pasalai keerai kootu is yummy spinach kootu recipe. This keerai is used in various Indian recipes, usually cooked with added spices and vegetables.
Ingredients: 1 bunch Pasalai keerai
1 Onion (finely chopped)
4 Garlic (crushed)
1/4 cup moong dal
for tempering: 1 tsp Oil – 1 tsp
1/2 tsp Mustard
1 Dry red chilli
1/4 tsp Cumin
1/4 tsp Hing
Method:Pasalai Keerai (பசலை கீரை) Kootu

Pressure cook the dal in a cup of water, a pinch of turmeric and a pinch of hing for about 4 or 5 whistles.
Clean the pasalai keerai in a stariner under clean water. once washed and drained, chop the leaves and set aside.
Heat a pan, add one tsp of oil, add mustard seeds,finely chopped onion, and saute well till it turns translucent, next add the crushed garlic and saute them in medium flame till mix well with the onions. add a pinch of turmeric, salt & mix well.
Now add the chopped pasalai keerai to the pan and saute the leaves along with the onions till the leaves wrinkle and get cooked. once the leaves are cooked, add the boiled and mashed toor dal and  mix well. add salt to taste and little water as per the consistency you require,pressure cook it and switch off the flame.
Serve the keerai kootu with hot rice and with appalam or potato roast.
