Simple Cabbage Poriyal

January 30, 2011 by Premalatha Aravindhan 33 Comments

Purple Cabbage is more colorful and attractive to kids.My daughter doesn’t like cabbage. So i use Purple one for her to eat cabbage and get it’s nutrition. But not only for kids I too like purple cabbage very much due to it’s color. And poriyal is one easy recipe to try with cabbage …
Ingredients:

300g Purple Cabbage
1 Onion Chopped
1 tsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds

1/4 tsp Urad Dal
1 tsp Cooked Channa Dal
A sprig of Curry Leaves

1 tbsp Grated Coconut
Salt to taste

Method:

  • Finely Shredded the cabbage

  • Heat oil in a kadai/Pan. Add mustard, urad dhal and curry leaves.Allow them to splutter. Then add Onion and saute it for a while.

  • Then add the shredded cabbage into the pan and then salt, sauté for few minutes. Sauté till the cabbage is par-cooked..

  •  Cover and cook for few minutes. Finally add the Cooked Channa Dal and Grated Coconut and Saute for few minutes.

  • Once done remove it from the flame. Before serving, garnish it with grated coconut,so that it looks more colorful. It goes well with all kinds of Kuzhambu, even with simple dhal and rasam.

Have a Nice Day!
