Pavakkai(bittergourd) Pitlai

Ingredients:

2-3 pavakkai(bitter gourd)
25 g black chickpeas
1 tbsp toor dhal
1 tbsp coriender seeds
1 tbsp urad dhal
3-4 dry red chilli
2 tbsp coconut
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp oil
1 dry red chilli
A pinch hing powder
1/2 cup thick turmarind juice
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp sambar powder
Salt to taste

Method:

Soak the Black chickpeas overnight and pressure cook it with enough water and kept aside.
Cut the Pavakkai into small round slices.Add a cup of  water and a pinch turmeric powder and cook it in microwave oven for 2min.Keep aside.

                      Heat a tsp of oil in a kadai,fry the urad dhal,coriender seeds,toor dhal,dry red chilles.

                                      
                                          Add little bit of water and grind it into a smooth paste

                                Heat the remaining oil in a kadai.Temper with mustard seeds ,one red chilli.Add the thick tamarind Juice.Add sambhar powder,hing powder,turmeric powder,salt and a cup of water,cook for 5 mins.

Add the grinded paste,cooked chick peas and pavakkai into the kadai and let it cook for another 5 mins.Once it become thick transfer it into a serving bowl.

                                    Serve it with hot rice and it goes well with all kinds of poriyal.

You can add a drop of  ghee while serving,the taste will be yummy:)

    wow prema..that pic itself shows its a must try :)..my hubby is big lover of pavakkai..i used to hate it…but now i too like it :)….. looks superb especially the last pic served with all other curries and rice πŸ™‚

    Prema Pavaakai pitali looks really good. Amma make differently than yours. we don;t add any chickpeas. I like it.
