  • ½ cup freshly grated coconut
  • 3 to 4 dried red chilies
  • a generous pinch of tamarind
  • 2 tbsp roasted gram(pottukadalai)
  • 2 shallots(optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  1. Add all the ingredients to a mixie jar, grind it without water first.
  2. so that the chilies will grind thoroughly
  3. open the lid add 3 to 4 tbsp of water grind it to a smooth paste.
  4. transfer the chutney to a bowl, add little water(2 to 3 tbsp) to the mixie jar, keep it.
  5. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan(low to medium flame), once the oil becomes hot add the mustard seeds, urad dal wait for a sec let the mustard seeds splutter.
  6. Add the hing, curry leaves. Fry it for 2 to 3 sec and then add 3 to 4 shallots thinly sliced. fry well till it turns golden.
  7. Once done add the tempering over the chutney and pour reserved water which is the mixie jar. Mix well.
  8. Red coconut chutney is ready to serve.
Always use fresh coconut
