Saravana Bhavan style 14 Idli Sambar that is Ghee Mini Idlis dunked in Sambar. Greasing the idli plate with ghee instead of oil and steam, called Ghee idli.

Serves: 15 mini idlis
  • 1 cup ildi batter(yeilds 15 mini idlis)
  • Ghee
  • Sambar
  • onion & coriander for garnishing
  1. Grease the mini idli mold with a drop of ghee, take a little batter in a spoon and fill each mold.
  2. Heat the idli steamer with little water. Place the idli plate inside the steamer and Steam idli for 5 to 10 minutes and once the idlis are done, set aside for 2 minutes or show the plate inverted in running water for a second.
  3. Using a spoon, scoop out the idlis, arrange it in a bowl. Pour Hot sambar over it.
  4. Dashing of ghee, garnish with chopped onions, coriander. Enjoy!!
Don't over steam the idli, it will turn hard then it is tough to absorb the sambar.
Either idli or sambar must be hot then only the idli suck the sambar.
Topping of Ghee adds flavor to sambar idli, don't skip.
