Easy Flax seeds Idli Podi recipe made with flax seeds, urad dal, chana dal, black sesame seeds, dry red chili, pepper, and curry leaves.

  • ½ cup urad dal
  • ⅓ cup chana dal
  • ⅓ cup flax seeds
  • 1 tbsp black or white sesame seeds
  • 6 to 7 dried red chilies
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • few curry leaves(optional, but gives good flavor)
  • 1 tsp salt

  1. Heat a tsp of oil in a Kadai add ½ cup urad dal, ⅓ cup chana dal roast in medium flame, till the dal turns golden, remove it from the Kadai. ⅓ cup flax seeds,1 tbsp black or white sesame seeds
  2. dried red chilies, ½ tsp pepper roast it, let them cool down completely and then transfer to a mixie jar, add a few curry leaves(optional, but give good flavor), 1 tsp salt, hing. Powder it to a coarse powder. Idli podi is ready!!
  3. Mix Idli podi either with sesame oil (nallennai) or ghee.
  4. Serve with idli or dosa.
You can store this podi at room temperature for up to 15-20 days. If you are going to need it for a longer time, then store the podi in zip lock bags in the freezer. It stays fresh for up to 4-5 months in the freezer.
