Kothu Idiyappam Recipe, Veg Idiyappa Kothu(Tamil Hotel Style)

Kothu Idiyappam Recipe is an Ultimate Breakfast and famous menu in all Tamil Hotels(veg idiyappam Kothu aka கொத்து இடியப்பம்). This Idiyappam Kothu is made with leftover idiyappam, not with idiyappam Sevai. Minced idiyappam is tossed with Loads of Healthy Vegetables and Indian Spices. Kothu Chappathi Recipe which is shared recently is super hit among my Insta friends. Madurai Special Dish Idyappam Kothu is very familiar among South Indians. I have shared Madurai Kari Dosai, Jigarthanda, and many Madurai famous dishes in the veg version.

Feeling bored of having the same old Idli and Dosai do try this way of Making Idiyappam Kothu a healthy and also kids love it because of the color of the Kothu Idiyappam. String Hopper is the Name of the Idiyappam in English. Kothu is Minced so Kothu Idiyappam is Minced Idiyappam. Usually, Idiyappam Side dish will be Kurma, Salna or coconut milk will be served but for this Kothu idiyappam no need any special side dish it can be served with simple raita or as it is.

  1. Simple Idiyappam with Sodhi and Coconut Milk(steamed version)
  2. Ellu Sevai, Ellorai Idiyappam, Milagu Seragam Idiyappam Sevai.
  3. Coconut sevai, Thengai Idiyappam, Coconut Sadhangai Idiyappam.
  4. Thakkali Idiyappam, Tomato Sevai, Spicy Tomato Idiyappam 
  5. Lemon Sevai, Lemon Idiyappam Sevai.

How to make Perfect Kothu Idiyappam recipe

Some useful tips and suggestions to make perfect Kothu Idiyappam. As its name said Kothu idiyappam recipe in the hotel they make it with idiyappam they won’t use idiyappam Sevai so try to use Idiyappam avoid Sevai. May be taste similar but the texture of the Sevai will be like noddles not that Kothu texture. I Have added some beans, carrots and green peas you can add you fav vegetables of your choice. I have added tomato puree to get the bright color of the idiyappam you can add either tomato puree or fresh chopped tomatoes. Squeeze some lime juice and sprinkle some chopped onions and garnish with coriander just before serving the idiyappam for the best taste.

Veg kothu Idiyappam, Minced Idiyappam are tossed with fresh vegetables and Indian spices.

Ingredients
  • 5 Idiyappam(minced)/இடியப்பம்
  • 1 tsp oil/எண்ணெய்
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick/இலவங்கப்பட்டை
  • 2 cloves/கிராம்பு
  • 1 medium-sized onion chopped finely/வெங்காயம்
  • 1 cup mined tomatoes/தக்காளி
  • 2 tbsp fresh or frozen green peas/பச்சை பட்டாணி
  • few curry leaves/கறிவேப்பிலை
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste/இஞ்சி பூண்டு விழுது
  • ⅓ tsp Tumeric powder/மஞ்சள் தூள்
  • 1 tsp chili powder/மிளகாய் தூள்
  • 1 tsp coriander powder/கொத்தமல்லி தூள்
  • 1 tsp salt
  • coriander leaves for garnishing/கொத்துமல்லி தழை
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped onions for garnishing/அழகுபடுத்த வெங்காயம்
  • 1 tsp lemon juice/எலுமிச்சை சாறு
Instructions
  1. First, take the idiyappam and tear roughly into pieces and add these pieces into the processor and process it for a second.
  2. you will get the minced Idiyappam, keep aside.
  3. finely chop the onion, tomatoes, green chili, chop vegetables and cook the green peas if you are using the fresh one, keep all ingredients ready.
  4. Now make the basic gravy for the Kothu Idiyappam, heat oil in a Kadai, add cinnamon stick, cloves.
  5. add onion, tomatoes, green chili, curry leaves saute till translucent.
  6. add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  7. add the cooked green peas add ½ cup water let it boil for a min or it forms a thick gravy.
  8. now gravy ready, add in the minced idiyappam and mix well with the gravy. Toss for few mins and then switch off the stove.
  9. Mined Idiyappam/Kothu Idiyappam/கொத்து இடியப்பம் /veg Kothu Idiyappam is ready to serve.
Notes
chop all the vegetables finely. since it is kothu Idiyappam all should be chopped finely and added.
cook green peas and add to the curry. if it is frozen no need for pre-cooking.
adjust the spice level and salt according to your tastebuds.
