White Coconut Chutney Recipe with step by step pics. This TamilNadu Hotel Style Coconut Chutney is very famous in small hotels to big restaurants. They serve this chutney with almost all the breakfast recipes like soft Idli, stuffed Idli, Paneer Dosa, Masala Dosa, dosa, Mysore Bonda, Methu Vada.

Coconut Chutney recipe(hotel style)

The secret of this hotel chutney is the pottukkadalai(roasted chana dal) and grated coconut can be used in equal quantity. pottukadalai(fried gram) has an extremely high source of protein, lowers bad cholesterol. pottukadalai are easily available in the market and found everywhere in India. This Kadalai Chutney tastes so good even with chapatis also.

Let’s Make Coconut Chutney,
White coconut chutney
1. take a small mixie jar and add in the fresh shredded coconut, fried gram dal, green chilies, salt, and a small clove of raw garlic.
2. Add about a quarter cup of water and grind to a smooth paste. Add more water while grinding the chutney if necessary.
3. Add oil in a pan. When hot, add in the mustard seeds and urad dal. Let the mustard seeds splutter. Add in a sprig of curry leaves.
4. Now add a pinch of asafoetida powder.
5. Add the tempering to the chutney. coconut chutney thengai chutney is ready.

Ingredients
  • To make coconut chutney(தேங்காய் சட்னி)we need:
  • ½ cup grated coconut/துருவிய தேங்காய்
  • ⅓ cup roasted chana dal /பொட்டுக்கடலை
  • 2 green chili/ பச்சைமிளகாய்
  • 1 tsp salt/ உப்பு – தேவையான
  • 1 tsp oil/ எண்ணெய்
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds/ கடுகு
  • ½ tsp urad dal/உளுந்தம்பருப்பு
  • few curry leaves/ கருவேப்பிலை
Instructions

  2. Add sesame oil in a pan. When hot, add in the mustard seeds and urad dal. Let the mustard seeds splutter. Add in a sprig of curry leaves.

Notes
Tips for white Coconut Chutney Recipe
1. Fried gram and grated coconut can be used in equal quantity also.
2. Adjust green chili and garlic flakes as per spiciness and flavor required.
3. Also, don't add mint or curry leaves more, the number of coriander leaves should be high.
4. This chutney can be ground to thick or made watery as per preference, but it should be slightly coarse.
5. In hotels, they grind everything, so that it will be coarse you can follow that method too.

Tips to make coconut chutney recipe:

1. Fried gram and grated coconut can be used in equal quantity for this chutney or you reduce the pottukadalai a little.
2. Adjust green chili and garlic flakes as per spiciness and flavor required.
3. Also, don’t add curry leaves more, the number of coriander leaves should be high.
4. This chutney can be ground to thick or made watery as per preference, but it should be slightly coarse.
5. In hotels, they grind everything, so that it will be coarse you can follow that method too.
