Thengai Payasam Recipe, Coconut Payasam Recipe, Arisi thengai payasam with step by step pics and video. Thengai Payasam is the easy South Indian Payasam variety with Coconut and Rice(airisi). As today is an Auspicious day i wanted to post some sweet recipe to start the year more sweater. Today Tamil New Year 2016  and Tamil month Chithirai is the first day of Tamil month. We make mango pachadi, payasam and vadai on this Puthandu Thirunal. I made coconut paysam for neivedyam and shared the recipe here. Coconut payasam is very famous among the South Indian Cusine and it is also called as Arisi thengai payasam with jaggery. Though am not a big fan of it but i would love to have all white colour payasams. Payasam with appalam is my fav combo. My sis loves Arisi Vellam payasam and this coconut payasam made with thengai (coconut) and vellam(jaggery) as main ingredients.  Some people use sugar to make this payasam. Thengai paal payasam is like squeeze out coconut milk and mixed boiled rice, that taste amazing will post that recipe soon.

coconut Payasam RecipeSoak rice in water 1 hour before preparing payasam. Add coconut and Ground it to a fine paste without water first and then add water ground it.

Thengai Payasam recipe with Jaggery

Boil water in a pan and add the coconut, rice mix. Let it to boil well. Meanwhile, make the jaggery syrup, boil water and then add the jaggery, let it dissolve in water. The syrup should not be too watery.

Thengai Paal Payasam recipe

the rice and the coconut mix is boiled well, like porridge. Now drain the jaggery syrup and then add it with the payasam,mix well. Add the cardamom powder mix well.

arisi vellam payasam

Roast the raisins and cashews in the ghee, till it turns golden brown and mix well with payasam. Now the payasam is ready to serve. We can serve it hot or cold and it is very good for neivedyam.

Thengai Payasam is the south Indian payasam variety made of Coconut and rice. Very good payasam easy to make which is suitable for all occacions.

Ingredients
  • Coconut, grated - ½ cup
  • Raw rice - 3 tbsp
  • Jaggery - ¾ cup(adjust)
  • a generous pinch Cardamom powder
  • Cashew nuts and raisins - 8-10
  • Milk, boiled & cooled(optional) - ¼ cup
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • water (1/3 cup grinding+1 & ½ cup+ ⅓ cup sugar syrup)
Instructions

Notes
You can add milk if you want to make rich payasam.
Instead of jaggery you can add sugar.
Make sure that the rice boiled well before adding the sugar syrup
