Steamed and fried methi muthia

Methi muthia recipe with step by step pictures. Methi muthia is a healthy Gujarati Snack Recipe. Here i have shared both steamed as well as deep fried version. Since Methi has lot a health benefits,it is good to add them in our  day to day cooking. Make methi muthia as a evening snacks,kids would love to have it. Weight watchers try this steamed version and have a healthy snack. Want to learn more methi recipes like Methi Thepla, methi pulao.

Wanted to upload the video recipe for methi muthia but then my phone was in service couldn’t able to shoot any video almost 3 weeks. Hopefully i will start posting my video recipes soon. Methi muthia is made of gram flour,fresh methi leaves and spice powders. If you want you can try with rava(semolina flour) also.

I know you guys are wondering why prema started posting guju recipes,ha ha nothing got many gujju friends as well as wanted to post something unique for my readers. I have no clue how it taste before making but once i made,started loving it. Last week 2 time i have made this. मेथी की मुठिया is yummy with any sauce.

Methi-Leaves

I have used the fresh methi leaves which is good for health as well as very tasty also. We can get the fresh methi in all the grocery shops and markets,so thought to post many methi recipe here.Lets see how to make the methi muthia,easy method.

Lets see how to make methi muthia or methi muthai recipe in steps wise pictures:

Add the fresh methi leaves,gram flour,semolina,cumin powder,chilly powder,turmeric powder ,lime juice, baking soda. mix well.

make a thick dough with little water(i have added curd). Keep the dough for 10-15 mins.After 15 mins i have divided the dough into 2 parts,  one part is for frying and other part is for steaming.Now take the deep frying part,make the dough like small cylinder shaped balls (or make it according to ur wish) like in the above pic.

steaming and frying the muthiaSteam the other part in a idly steamer for about 5-10 mins .Meanwhile fry the small balls in oil and take out in a plate. Once the muthia steamed then slice it .Season it  and serve. Now methia muthia is ready to serve.

Methi muthia is a gujarati sncaks . This is very healthy snack and easy to make. Here i have shared steamed and deep fried version.

Ingredients
  • for making the muthia dough:
  • 2 cups besan/chickpea flour
  • 1 tbsp water or yogurt - add more if required
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 2.5 cups chopped methi leaves
  • 1 tsp salt or as required
  • 2 tbsp semolina
  • 1 tsp turmeric/haldi
  • 1 tsp cumin/jeera powder
  • ½ tsp red chili powder/cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • oil for frying the muthia
  • for tempering the steamed muthia:
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp white sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 sprig of curry leaves
  • for garnishing the steamed muthia:
  • few chopped coriander leaves
  • some freshly grated coconut
Instructions
