Vengaya vadagam chutney RECIPE

Vengaya vadagam chutney / thalippu vadagam or Kari vadagam chutney recipe with step by step photos-The preparation of vadagam chutney is very simple and easy too. It is also very simple chutney recipe which can be made using the vengaya thalippu vadagam.

This is not like usual chutney recipe but a healthy chutney recipe that you can make and store it for a long time. This vadaga chutney is made of thalippu vadagam, which contains Shallots (Small Onion), Turmeric powder, Urad dal, Cumin seeds, Mustard Seeds, Fennel seeds, Fenugreek, Garlic, etc.

Making Vengaya vadagam chutney is so easy with fewer ingredients. You just need 1 medium size thalippu vadagam(g), dry red chillies, coconut, tamarind, oil and salt. Since the thalippu vadagam itself contains onion and other spices we no need add those for this chutney.You can have this yummy chutney with idli, dosa, paniyaram,uthappam etc… Have you ever made this vadagam at home do try this it is very simple method. below pic is the thalippu vadagam which i used to make this chutney.

Let me tell the taste of chutney, is little bitter but food items which are bitter in taste always healthy. If you are new to this chutney so add a tsp of vanda gam initially and then you can increase little by little while you make next time.

Vengaya vadagam chutney

Heat oil in a pan and then fry the vadagam and dry red chilli,take it out. Now in the same pan add coconut and fry it, once done take it out in a plate and let it cool down.Now Take the mixie jar add the fried vadagam, coconut, dry red chillies, tamarind and salt.

Grind it without water first and then grind it with a little water into a smooth paste,scrap down and again little water grind it and then transfer it into a bowl. Chutney is now ready.Serve Vengaya vadaga chutney with hot idlis or dosa. The chutney will stay for one week if you refrigerate and handle it properly.

Ingredients
  • 1 medium sized thalippu vadagam/vengaya vadagam(20g)
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp tamarind
  • 3-4 dry red chilies
  • 2 tbsp coconut
  • salt as needed.
Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a pan and then fry the vadagam and dry red chilli,take it out. Now in the same pan add coconut, fry it. Once done take it out in a plate and let it cool down.

Notes
Since the vengaya vadagam contains shallots and all spices so we no need to add the shallots.
Addition of coconut in this chutney reduce the bitterness of vadagam so add according to your taste.
If you dont want add coconut then fry the urad dal to golden brown grind it along with the other ingredients.
