Pongal Kuzhambu(Puli Curry) with Sankaranthi Kootu Recipe | Pongal Recipes

Pongal Kuzhambu

Hey Guys, am back.Happy New Year to you all.Today am sharing one of the famous festival recipe Pongakkuzhambu and Sankaranti kuttu recipe which is a yummy side dish for ven pongal.It is usually done during the Pongal Feast which contains lot of healthy vegetables and dal.We will use country vegetables in odd numbers to make this kuzhambu and kootu.Here is the Recipe,




For Pongal Kuzhambu We need:

2-3 cups Mixed Vegetables
1/4 cup toor dal
Lemon sized Tamarind
1 and half cup water
1 tbsp Sambar Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
A generous Pinch Hing
A sprig Curry Leaves
1 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/3 tsp Urad dal
2 Dry red chillies
Salt as needed

Method:
  • Pressure cook the toor dal,mash it and keep aside.
  • Soak tamarind in water and extract thick juice keep aside.

Pongal kozhambu

  • Wash and cut vegetables into medium sized.I used the vegetables like posanikai,kathirikai,senai kizhangu,urulai kizhangu,vazhiakai,etc.Try to use Country vegetables instead beans,carrot etc.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and temper the hing,mustard seeds,urad dal,dry red chilli and finally add curry leaves.
  • Add the Vegetables into the kadai,cover and cook for sometimes.

Pongal kozhambu

  • Once the vegetables becomes soft add the sambar powder,turmeric powder,salt.
  • Add cooked toor dal and water.Let the kuzhambu boils till the raw smell goes.
  • Check the vegetables are cooked well and then finally add the tamarind extract.Once it started forming at the top remove it from the stove.

                                 Here is the pongal Kuzhambu is ready to serve.

Lets Proceed with the Pongal Kootu Recipe.

Pongal kootu

For Pongal Kootu We need:

2-3 cups Mixed Vegetables
2 tbsp toor dal
Lemon sized tamarind
1 tbsp Sambar Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
A generous Pinch Hing
2 tbsp grated Coconut
Salt as needed

For Tempering:

A sprig Curry Leaves
1 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/3 tsp Urad dal
2 Dry red chillies

Method:

  • Pressure cook the toor dal,mash it and keep aside.
  • Soak tamarind in little water and extract thick juice keep aside.

Pongal kootu

  • Wash and cut vegetables into medium sized.
  • Add the vegetables into a pressure cooker and then add in cooked dal,turmeric powder,sambar powder,salt.
  • Add the grated coconut and tamarind extract , close the pressure cooker and cook it.Just a whistle is enough and remove it from the stove.Don’t over cook it otherwise the vegetables will become mushy.

Pongal kootu

  • After a few minutes open the lid and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and temper the jeera,mustard seeds,dry red chilly, urad dal,curry leaves and hing.
  • Transfer the tempering into the kootu and mix well.Kootu is ready to taste now.

Don’t forgot to make this on pongal day,it is really a yummy combo with Ven Pongal.
