Steamed Christmas Cake | Christmas Recipes

The traditional British Christmas Cake is rich with full of fruits and nuts. I have already posted dark fruit cake recipe with lot of fruits and nuts,that version includes gram masala.But i wanted to try steamed version of Christmas cake.This is very simple and easy cake recipe for beginners… The recipe for Egg less Christmas cake will be coming up next …



Ingredients:

  • 100 g Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 60 g Margarine
  • 59 g Butter
  • 125 g Plain Flour
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 Eggs(120 g)
  • 10 ml Milk
  • 250 g Fruits
  • 75 g Nuts

Method:

  • Pre heat the oven.Add Butter and Margarine in a mixing bowl and beat them at low-high speed for 3 minutes.

  • Shift the Plain flour and baking powder.Add the shifted flour in the mixing bowl and mix well.

  • Add brown sugar and salt with the flour.Blend until well mixed.

  • Add egg one by one,beat well.

  • Pour in milk and mix well.

  • Add in mixed fruits and nuts and mix well.

  • Make ready the cake batter for baking.

  • Grease the top of the steaming tin with butter and fill water in the bottom tin.

  • Steam bake it at 180 degree Celsius for about 55-60 minutes.

  • Let it cool for sometime and transfer the cake to a plate.

  • Here is steam cake is ready.

    Never have tried steamed cake. Is it special container that you have there? and does it go in regular cooker? That cake looks sooo divine.! perfect to put u in mood for Christmas

    @sayantani,If u r using convectional oven then steaming optional will be there.so for that u can use normal tin.But mine is not convectional,so i used steaming pan or u can try this method also for steaming,Heat a pressure cooker with 10 cups of water inside. Place a metal mesh and keep the cake tin on it. Cover the pressure cooker without the weight. Let the cake cook for 2 hours on slow fire or till a knife inserted in it comes out clean.Hope this will helps you…

    @sumee,thanks we can make it in regular cooker also.But it takes lot of time.This kinda steaming pans make the cake perfect and saves the time,is available here…

    This really is inspiring! I have never tried to steam bake a cake before, but the texture of this cake tells me that it may be a good method to try. Most of the fruit cakes in the US are a lot denser than this one, but I do like your lighter version. I am so glad you posted this, I have saved the recipe. It does look delicious.
