Appam without Yeast

I had Appam recently in Meenakshi Bavan, tempted over the taste and the shape they prepared.Tried it at home,it comes out nicely. This recipe i got it from my Amma.

Ingredients:

1 cup Raw Rice
1 cup Boiled Rice
1/4 cup Urad dal
1/2 cup Coconut milk
1 tsp salt

Method:

Soak both raw rice and boiled rice together in a bowl and urad dhal separately in another bowl in water.Soak it for 3 hours.

Grind the urad dal in grinder and then rice into a smooth mix..

Transfer the Appam batter into a container and add salt.Mix the batter well.Let it get fermented for 8-10 hrs. After 8-10 hrs,you will get the fluffy batter.

Add the coconut milk into the appam batter and mix them well.Batter should be pouring consistency .

Heat  the Appa Kadai in  medium flame and then drop a ladle full of  appam batter into the kadai. Rotate the kadai so that the flour will spread all the sides evenly.

Spread the flour slowly,i made the appam like flower shape. You can make the normal shape also.

Reduce the flame Medium to low and cover the kadai with lid.Let it cook for few Min's.Don't open the lid for few minutes.

After few mins, open the lid. Then you can see the holes on the top of appam, shows that it cooked well and it is the correct stage to take out from the kadai.

Serve Hot Appam with coconut milk.
